Silver Lining
, 2024"Silver Lining" by db Waterman is an evocative 2022 Mixed Media masterpiece that explores themes of childhood innocence and the interplay of melancholy and hope.
Measuring 100 x 70 x 2 cm, the painting depicts a young girl mid-jump with a skipping rope, floating above a field of vibrant flowers. The lush, dark green background, with streaks of dripping paint, creates a dreamlike atmosphere that contrasts with the vivid pinks and oranges of the blooms below, emphasizing a poignant balance between whimsy and introspection. Waterman’s innovative layering technique, combining acrylic, oil, pencil, and collaged textures, lends a tactile depth to the piece. The monochromatic treatment of the central figure highlights the delicate fragility of childhood, while the richly textured flowers and dripping forest lines evoke a mysterious and emotive backdrop. The artwork’s subtle details and interplay of light and shadow further enhance its surreal and melancholic tone. "Silver Lining" is a perfect addition to living rooms, bedrooms, or gallery spaces, where its striking visual elements and emotional resonance can inspire conversation and reflection.

Biography
Using a multitude of materials, db Waterman assembles and mixes techniques to compose scenes of life and landscapes.
The choice of collage as an artistic medium leads her to push her limits for ever more transparency and sets of materials. A variety of materials possible thanks to the collagee db Waterman assembles in her works original photographs, matching papers, acrylic , oil, charcoal, ink and pencil. The variety of resources it can use is essential for it. Its challenge: getting closer to the transparency of the paint. Starting into the collage technique is a challenge for db Waterman because its lack of transparency is ruthless. Finding a way to reproduce the transparency effects offered by painting, in particular watercolor, is for this artist a "great victory". Her preparatory work is reflected in her collages. Layer after layer, the material remains visible in the finished parts. Melancholy as a wire conductive db Waterman, her work allows her to reinvent herself constantly. Having always loved the appearance of the walls worn by time, covered with flagship painting and old posters, it resuscitates this aesthetic with a clear and precise look. The creative objective of her work is to "do something beautiful from decrepitude ". Her paintings, which explore the dissonance between old and new materials, highlight dream and melancholy images.
